Mars / Digital Image (PNG), Embedded Encrypted Virus Binary / Export Control is a provocative series that embeds encrypted historical computer viruses within digital artworks, challenging notions of digital sovereignty and control. Mars, crafted by the French hacker Spanska in the late 1990s, is renowned for its innovative 3D visual payload -a red and black voxel-rendered landscape that disrupted infected systems. By encapsulating Mars within this artwork, this work reclaims a piece of hacker history, transforming a symbol of digital subversion into a contemplative artifact on resistance and the aesthetics of code. The embedded virus binary is securely encrypted, inert, and poses no functional risk.
